Hello everyone. Unfortunately, after one summer's worth of fun, my ski
wont start. I didn't expect it to die so quickly when I bought it but
being inclined to learn I decided to try and repair it myself. I have
reseached the group thread but none of my numbers match the numbers
posted when testing for resistance in the electrical box. I know my
probIem is no spark and a strange enclosed box within the electrical
box seems to be the culprit but I need to be sure. I was wondering if
anyone could shed some light on the situation with schematics or
diagrams of some sort so I know exactly what to look for. Electrical
work is not my specialty. Thanks in advance to everyone. It's a Yamaha
WR500.

If it looks like Ebola... it's probably a common cold... .

Before you start playing with the black box I would suggest...
-Make SURE it has no spark. How did you test it? Did you test both
plugs? If one works, I would suggest changing the plug wires.
-Did you check the fuse? (It has been many years since I played with a
WR500 but I seem to remember one)
-IS THE WRIST STRAP CUT OFF SYSTEM WORKING?? (Easy to test the back of
the switch to make sure it is opening and closing the circuit) This is a
common problem and causes the IGNITION system to not work. (Engine will
turn over)
-Water/moisture issues? Spray ALL ELECTRICAL stuff with "Corrosion
block" no.. NOT WD-40... buy Corrosion block.. spray it all over the
electical devices.. let is sit for a while, then try it... the stuff
works miracles...
-If that doesn't work and you want to work on your ski... spend the $50
and buy the service manual... I have one for every boat engine I own (1
jet, 1 OB, 2 Diesels, 2 diesel gens) and they ALWAYS pay for themselves.

Good Luck!!!!

Love the quote. I took your advice and bought a manual but until it
arrives in the mail I'm going to post what I did. To test for spark, I
insterted a screw driver into the booting for the spark plug and held
the screw driver over the spark plug and clooked for spark or sound. I
did this to both cables to no avail. The next thing I did was check
the fuse. It looked normal but I double checked with an multimeter and
it was fine. I unpluged the start switch and checked that it made a
circuit which it did. I did not spray any corrosion block and am
unfamiliar with it. How much should I apply and how would I go about
doing it? Thanks a lot for the advice. It is much appreciated.
