Congrats on your new boat ! I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun with it.

50mph is a little light of what it should be able to achieve. Although the
speedo's are notoriously inaccurate, I think you should be able to see
another 5 mph or so out of the boat. The rough idle, and low end stumble
could be a lot of things. I would "guess" something to do with the carbs.
Especially if it had set for a while like you said before.
I'd start with the new plugs, and fresh gas and see if it smooths out for
you. Other than that, a carb rebuild would probably take care of your
problems. (both the stumbling, and the top-end)...

Also, while you are giving the boat the once-over, take a flashlight and
inspect the impeller through the intake grate. The edges should be nice and
clean. If they are dinged up or bent it could be the cause of your lack of
top-end speed.

I would like to thank the group for the helpful info I've received regarding
my pruchase of a '96 SeaDoo GTX. Yesterday I took the boat out for the first
ride. The weather in the East has been so rainy it was the first chance I've
gotten to try out the boat.

I had a little difficulty getting it started initially. It wanted to run a
few seconds, then die. Once I got it going it ran well. Once warmed up it
easily re-started. Top speed was 50mph as measured by the digital read-out.
The temp was 70, the water calm, I weigh about 185. I thought it ran a
little rough in the low RPM's but when it hit 3500 RPM's the acceleration
was incredible. From a dead stop the engine would stumble a little under
hard throttle for about a second, then take off.

I ordered new oil and fuel filters as well as new spark plugs as suggested
by the group, but have not yet received them. Hopefully will have that work
completed next week.

Questions:

Was the top speed about what I should expect?
Is the rough running at low RPM's typical of a two stroke or does this need
to be looked into?
