Hi, I have a 1987 Kawasaki JS550 thats been having some problems.
Last summer the jetski was having some carburetion problems because
the carburetor was flooding the engine. You could literally see gas
streaming down the throttle body and puddling at the bottom of the
intake manifold. Then I let the ski sit overnight and the next day
the cylinders were completely filled with gas. At that point I tried
to rebuild the carburetor myself and when I took it apart I didn't see
anything wrong but I wasn't careful using the air compressor and
accidentally lost the float valve. So then I just decided to buy a
supposedly rebuilt carburetor off of ebay. When I put the ski back
together with the new carburetor in the winter it started so I
winterized it and put it away. This carburetor was set up for a
primer kit so I installed that as well. Now I took the ski out the
other day and it starts right up with the primer but quickly bogs out
and dies. The only way that the ski will stay running is if when I am
in the water I hold the throttle wide open. Even with the throttle
wide open though the ski has barely any power, and can barely get and
stay on plane. However when I hold the throttle open occasionally the
ski will have bursts of power where it will feel normal again but
these bursts only last a couple of seconds. I am fairly mechanically
inclined and don't want to pay to have this problem fixed so I was
hoping that someone might have some suggestions that I could try.
Also today I thought that it might be the primer kit causing the
problem so I blocked it off and tried it but that didn't fix the
problem. I'm sorry about the long posting I just wanted to give the
most accurate possible description. Thanks for your help. James
