Polaris SL750 Problems

Could be air in the gas line since it seems to be hard to start after
running for a bit and sputters on the top. Plus you said there is a crack
in a line.

My '95 Polaris SL750 is having problems running. It will start and run
fine, with full power and then just die or sputter out after about 30
seconds to 3 minutes. It will then be hard to start (10 to 15 tries) but
will start, idle poorly for about 15 seconds, improve for a bit and then
just die again. Fuel filter is clean, plugs are dry and slightly beige-
grey, new-gas, lots of oil.

I added some gas stabilizer/cleaner a week ago with no improvement and
took the airbox off a ran some carb cleaner through it this past weekend
with no improvement.

I did notice a small crack in the gas filler neck on the outside just
under the cap this past weekend but I religiously check the fuel/water
separator for contamination but there never seems to be more than a few
drops of water in it.

It has been doing this since I picked it up from my local marine dealer
in June who stores it for me over the winter. It ran fine on his hose he
said but has gotten progressivly worse in the last 3 weeks.

It's at the dealers shop right now and I don't want him to just start
throwing parts at it to see if that will resolve the problem. He's a
Yamaha dealer BTW so I can't expect him to be totally up on the Polaris
but they didn't make them that complicated back in '95.

Any ideas what it might be? All input would be welcome. I need to keep
this PWC running for at least 2 more years.

regrettably, it sounds as if you're seizing.

gummed carbs that weren't winterized will inadequately meter fuel,
causing a lean condition, and the dreaded squeak.

hopefully a carb clean and a new top end and off ou go....

JetskiMechanic.com sells a high-volume, 3-outlet
Mikuni fuel pump for US$40. That is what I used
on my SL750 to upgrade the fuel system. All you
need is a little extra fuel hose (cheap) and you
are good to go. Only took a few minutes of work.

I do not believe it really has a model number.
Click on "Parts Index" and then "Fuel Pumps".
It's called "MIKUNI HIGH VOLUME FUEL PUMP" for
$39.95 and says "70 liters per hour rated" in
the description. I think it is the only fuel
pump on that page, actually. The rest is just
other carb items for rebuilding and replacing.

Send them an email if you have any questions.
They are helpful and know what you will want,
as it is a common upgrade for the SL750s.
