A Polaris slt 780 or 790 was sumerged in water to the handle bars for
about 8 hours on a fresh water lake. What is the procedure to dewater
and is the engine salvageable. I understand the drain plugs were left
out and the engine was not tried to start. Any advise thanks GBO

Don't try to start it with water in the cylinders. Drain the water out of
the hull. Pull the spark plugs and tilt the boat on it's side to drain as
much water out of the cylinders as you can. Next, connect the key and crank
the motor over.....stand to side since water will shoot out of the sparkplug
holes. Let off of the start button for a second and then crank it again.
Stop and spray some lube into the spark plug holes. Crank again. Repeat
until water stops coming out of the holes. After that, put in some fresh
spark plugs and try to start it. It should fire up.

If it doesn't start after that, check your fuses. Submerging the boat could
have gotten water into places where it shouldn't be and caused a short
somewhere. Also, pull the plugs again and check them....you may not have
gotten all of the water out and the plugs could be wet. Dry them and try
again.

Get the water out ASAP. Pull the spark plugs and crank boat over for 30
seconds. stop spray some WD-40 in. Repeat, repeat, repeat until there
is very little water coming out. You can aid the water coming out by
putting your finger over the spark plug hole and giving it a little
pressure. If its been in there since friday you might have probs with
rust.
