I have a 96 GTX that has a very odd problem. First with a little
background: I've owned the ski for about 3 years and the problem has
been there since I've owned it. It was ridden for the remainder of
the '00 summer then not ridden again until this Spring due to various
reasons.
I had the ski completely serviced by the local dealer to include a
carb rebuild. The ski will run fine under most circumstance then it
decides to bog down is the best way to describe the condition. It
won't plane out and tops out at about 4500rpm. Last weekend for
example we ran nearly 20 gallons of fuel through the thing before it
started acting up. One remedy that seems to work is to take off the
fuel filler cap which makes me think that it's a air problem with the
tank of some sort. Only problem is that it doesn't always solve the
problem. I had a 94 XP behave the same way and the fuel tank
replacement that was performed under recall made the problem
disappear. I've had the ski back into the dealer several times and
the problem is so hit or miss they can't seem to do anything with it.
They replaced spark plug wires and other electrical troubleshooting
and various fuel system and carb adjustments to no avail.
Any suggestions on where to look would be great!! My next option
would be a speculative fuel tank replacement.
Thanks in advance for any help.
