I was just coming into Wolftever Sat. afternoon when I saw all of this
happening. Wolftever creek gets very, very narrow in certain spots,
and the accident occurred in one of these 'bottleneck' areas where the
channel narrows down. It's a blind curve, and no way the injured party
could avoid the collision. Word is that the driver of the ski that hit
him will be charged because he was driving very fast and recklessly.
Eyewitnesses stated that the injured man actually made several evasive
manuevers to avoid the collision, but had no where to go. Here's the
news article:
Sunday, June 22, 2003 --- The emergency call went out to the Hamilton
County Sheriff's Department and the Hamilton County Emergency Services
around 3:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
A civilian boater called 911 on a cell phone and reported a crash
between two SeaDoo type boats on Wolftever Creek just above Harrison
Bay. The boater said he had one person with a head injury from the
crash in his boat and was transporting him to the Wolftever Boat Ramp
just off Highway 58.
The victim, Bryan Heim, 26, a student a Southern College in
Collegedale, was lifted from the civilian's boat and onto the dock.
Heim had obvious facial cuts but was conscious though a bit stunned.
Rescue workers from The HCEMS and 58 VFD gave immediate care to Heim
and transported him to Erlanger Hospital. His injuries were not
believed to be life-threatening.
Heim was riding the small craft while his wife rode another. A witness
said second pair of similar boats came form another direction and two
of them collided. Heim was the only person hurt. He was wearing a life
jacket at the time of the crash.
