Heads up nut....Their seemed to be a lot of east coast Yankee's in the
USN back when I was in, anytime one of them tells you you're smart for
a rebel he's fixing to break it off in you. Don't let him get you in a
shell game or try to sell you a Rolex watch, the Brooklyn bridge or
anything! Make sure he's not carrying loaded dice either! 0~;-> |

That and watches....them NYC Yankee's walk around with watches up to
the elbow on both arms, trying to sell them...Damedst thing I ever
saw. I've got at least a thousand sea stories about Yankee's, about
half after I got out of the Navy----I had to lay over in Vermont and
Conn. because the crazy bastards won't sell Diesel to long distance
truck drivers on Sunday---so I'd hitch into the nearest small town and
try to educate them....You would have thought a UFO had landed and a
Alien wearing cowboy boots had got out---Had farmers offering to give
me diesel fuel to get me out of the state---Their pretty tight so
thats a big deal for them---their funny as hell though, real dry sense
of humor. P |

boy their something, I rolled into town and here they are sitting like
bumps on a log either staring at each other, a tree or a building
across the street so I got involved immediatly....no reaction and I
begin thinking "twilight zone." They just have a slow response time
thats all----it takes them a while to think things over.
Next day a few started talking, trying to pick up the one sided
conversation we had had the day before-----one said "You do realize
the south lost the war don't you?" and "Theres no was a American
Destroyer Escort can stand off a Russian Cruiser." So I retold the
sea story, said think about it harder then walked off down the lane
while they mulled it over. Give them New England Yankees something to
think about and they get squirrelly------got to have a town hall
meeting and vote on the varsity of a sea story and "Should we lock
him up or give him diesel fuel"? Damnedest thing you ever saw----their
real hard headed, how our forefathers lost the war between the states
is beyond me. o~
