I've always been admired by power and style of Waddell, so I stay on
his side and hope he will race at the Games, even better to see both
NZ scullers there.

It's since 2000 then when sculling I think at how Rob presses with
legs with "low shoulder" for an incredibly powerful and progressive
stroke, and that helps me a lot.

It will be really intersting to see what happens. I'm a Drysdale
supporter. I'd love to see a 4 year sweep in the M1x! Mahe was very
close in their last meeting. I won't be suprised to see Mahe give Rob
his best race when it counts the most.

I'm also a Mahe fan, he is a "big" race performer and is kreeping up
on Rob. I think the selsctors have made a mistake in putting both of
them through this trial mill. They should have had faith in a triple
world champion and put Rob straight into a double with Cohen and focus
on building that boat into a gold medal proposition and leave Mahe to
focus on his own prep.

We will see, I think Rob has just started, Mahe surely will get in
shape, but Rob has a lot to do, only time will tell how much faster
both will get.

On my side, Rob has something more, with its beautiful style and
determination, but he is also risking a lot, not having a solid boat
work in the last years, and this could lead to problems like injuries
or mental stress.

I fully understand Mahe's position on the issue and would agree that
it's better for him to prepare as he has in the past three years.
However, Rob is certainly a challenger of enough potential to send
this to trials.

Rob is certainly still able to win a medal in the single. Just keep a
few things in mind:

1. Rob won. 8 years ago. That's eight!

2. Rob needed to change his entire body structure to upper body
strength for grinding. He is still rebuilding to rowing.

3. Rob has had early success against Drysdale who was completely
unprepared to say the least. The guy was coming from vacation!

For Mahe speaks:

1. Not sure who else won three Worlds in a row in such a competitive
men's singles field. Big mental advantage.

2. Mahe is used to peak. He has never had an unbeaten season and then
comes big. The same will happen at trials. He is fitter now than he
was last year at the same time.

3. Mahe doesn't have one extra gear when needed. He's got MANY.

4. Mahe has the youth, RECENT experience, confidence and dominance it
takes to perform for the entire Olympic regatta THIS year.

4. Rob is an Olympic Champion
