Hi, im wanting to build a climbing wall on the exterior of the brick house i
live in. Would anyone know where to get expansion anchors/bolts to secure
the holds with? I have the traditional holds (no countersunk). I heard that
a threaded anchor/expansion bolt/anchor is what i need. Would anyone know
where I can get them from in Brisbane or mail order interstate?
Thanks heaps!
cheers, peter

Try any local bolt supply place they will have the stuff you require.

Good Luck Peter - Send us a photo when you are finished - it would be good
to see what it looks like. (better yet, send us an invitation, especially if
you are in WA !. )
I tried to talk the wife into letting my son and I have a bouldering circuit
around the house - no luck (at all !). She wouldn't let me drill holes int
he bricks for some reason !.
The major problem anyway seemed to be sufficient height to make it
worthwhile, and the angle (I really wanted to have adjustable angles) - so I
was planning on a section hinged at the floor and with chains at the top so
that I could change the angle. This was rejected on the grounds that it
would be ugly.
I'm still considering the 'over the pool' wall/roof thing - metal framework,
removeable panels that slot in and provide shade for the pool, and also have
the holds bolted on the underneath - it can be as high as I want it, and
there's no need to try and store mattresses or something to fall on - you
just fall int he pool!. Great for summer, winter might be a bit of a
problem. I'm not going to put this one forward to the boss until I work out
how to keep the chalk dry !!.
Cheers,
Vic

Hi everyone. I was away over christmas. Just got back.
I have been doing a little research and have bought around 35 drop-in
anchors (zinc). I'll make a before and after shot of my project. Just taking
it slow and wanting to test these drop-in anchors on some spare bricks. I
live in brisbane btw sorry haha.
The details of the specific anchors i have are:
Power fasteners D38M Drop-in anchors zinc
40 mm length x 12mm diameter
the screw that fits them are for a 3/8" thread (exact same thread as the
screws found for holds in climbing gyms). So i can use my alen key and alter
the holds around woohoo! I got them from a place called boltmasters. They
have several locations around australia.
It's not going to be a problem when the house has to be sold. I just remove
the hold with screw and fill in the hole with a bit of discoloured dark
mortar. Our bricks are not of a uniform colour and have a darkish/dirty look
to them so the patchup job wont look out of place and will blend in.
Best of luck with hang over Vic! Sounds cool what a great! It'll be like
climbing on the cliffs along the coast line. I've got a pool as well. No
need for any cushioning when when you fall hey!

Let me get this right....
You put in these trendy little anchor thingummies and then you can bolt on holds
to them?
So you could put in a number of anchors and re-set your climbs every so often
too?
How good would that be if you had a double storey house?!
Ur giving me ideas. Even if my house is only standard single.
