Tom, that reminds me of a story that describes the situation pretty
well. Years ago, someone was criticizing Bear Bryant for making such a
big deal of football, when the purpose of a university is to teach.
Bear's reply was something like, "Yeah, but you know, it's awful hard to
get 90,000 people out on a Saturday afternoon to hear a chemistry
lecture."
