Hi All (if there's anyone left)

I've lifted the following post by Martin Kocsis of the BMC off UKC, just on
the offchance that this group is still read by someone who, say, started
climbing in his early 50s? (How are you Mr P?)

....

Topic - Desperately seeking: anyone who started climbing after 40
- by - Martin Kocsis, BMC

SAGA magazine is looking to interview an 'older' climber for the latest
feature in their series "Got the T-shirt". Ideally they are looking for
someone who started climbing after the age of 40 and who is now over 60.

If that's you and you'd like to share your love of climbing with the SAGA
nation then we'd love to hear from you! If you know of someone who fits the
bill please give them a nudge.

Contact BMC Press Officer Tina Gardner on 0161 438 3337 or tina@thebmc.co.uk

....

Sean

Well spotted, that man! As it happens, this was kindly passed to me by
Marek, who guessed correctly that I was approaching the big six-oh (actually
it's today - we've been away for a couple of days hence the delay) and who
knew exactly when I started climbing since my first roped climbs were with
him and Dr Marsland at Helsby in 1999, when I was 51. I've replied to the
BMC and they are forwarding it to SAGA.

Ironically enough, I subscribed to Saga Magazine as part of my wife Judy's
(that's Mrs P on here) Christmas present, but she started climbing much
younger, so that rules her out. Her birthday present to me was a voucher
for a day's Guiding with Robin Beadle - probably rock-climbing in the Lakes,
so there's a theme here.

Thanks for the thought,

Steve P

Hi All
I started climbing when I was about 18 months old, but my mum kept putting
me back in the cot. I climbed and bounced around a lot since then, but did
not start serious climbing until I was about 54 using ropes and leading
around VS. I then took and passed my SPA at 57 and am now closing in on 60.
I now instruct and assess Scouts and find that working with younsters makes
me feel younger too. So it goes to show that anyone can start climbing at
any age if they feel the need to do so.
Cheers
Ken
