Morning all:

Sunday I repeated my level 5 jump... made much improvement on my exit, and
no spinning problems. I made time for the wind tunnel, and that was the
ticket... Alos the last thread my JM had recomended the tunnel, but I
posted just to see if anyone might have had the same problem...Anyway
thanks for reminding me to listen to my Jm

What was causing the spinning?

Most of us aren't symetric, especially our muscles. We "feel"
like we are in a symetric body position, but we aren't. I always
found it harder to "stand still" than to be doing a maneuvor.
Which always makes it strange that we insist that students
"fall flat and stable" before they do anything else. That's
pretty much the hardest thing we're gonna ask them to do for
the next 20 jumps and we insist on them doing that before
anything else.

It's called control. We aslo don't let driving students out on a
freeway unless they can demonstrate an adequate degree of control in
maintaining a heading on lesser roads. If a skydiving student can't
maintain a heading of choice when needed, how are they going to be
able to have any other degree of control? One starts with the basics,
you know.

Great job! I, too, used a wind tunnel; the one near Pigeon Forge years
ago when I had a spinning problem as a student; it helped me immensely
in learning body control while flying. A good JM is invaluable for
advice and help with techniques... glad you have a good one! Keep
having fun!

The really cool thing about either some tunnel time or a few more
freefalls is that for most of us, after somewhere between 10 and 60
minutes of freefall, you never think about stability again - the body
has learned to take care of that automatically. I know there are
exceptions, so don't rag on me about somebody you know that. . . . . .

Hi all,
I'm new to this group, but I've been having spinning problems as well.
I can't seem to find a wind tunnel to help me with my jumps. Does
anybody have any advice for me.

Naw, I never got the love handles until after I got paralyzed - great
excuse - I can't exercise what I can't move Smile Of course, I could cut
down on the ice cream.

Know that feeling....I haven't get much exercise since my left side
was paralyzed
in 1996, plus a serious aging problem has crept up on me.....built one
hell of an arch though....to bad I don't skydive anymore-----could set
a blazing base rate, always could but it would be like a cannon ball
from hell falling from the sky now!. Nobody would have a going low on
the formation problem with my big butt setting the fall rate. The
bandy ass scream and cry a lot punks might have float up on the
formation problem though unless they were wearing weights or a super
slick jumpsuit. Hell I'd just have to get me one to then. Because I
always liked making them pitch a fit! 0~;->

You may have to road trip to get to one. Go for it; IF you're serious
about skydiving, it will be well worth your efforts to get there by
the improvement in your flying abilities afterwards.

We don't know where this novice is at at.....repeating a Level till he
or she gets it right may be more cost effective than driving to
Florida.....You're mighty free with other peoples money, 4 laps WinkP

Wind tunnels are fine and dandy, but I'd suggest (and this is just me
talking) that you work with your local JMs first and see if you can work
it out. They've already been in the air with you and should be able to
provide you with direct feedback to help you correct whatever is causing
your spin. After all, that's part of their gig. Not ruling out tunnel
time, but IMHO if you can fix it in freefall with all else that is going
on, you're ahead of the game.
