HELP! - Bad Crankshaft bearing on 1997 Polaris SLTX jetski

We just learned that our 1997 Polaris SLTX jetski has a bad crankshaft
bearing. The mechanic is recommending that we replace the motor with a
rebuilt motor and this will cost us $2,000 to $2500. This jetski still
looks new, it has relatively low hours and it has been well taken care
of. It has always been flushed out after use, etc.

Do we have any other options? Couldn't the crank shaft bearing be
replaced? Or, is a rebuilt motor the best choice. We would really like
to spend less on the repair if possible.

Steve,
The crankshaft is pressed together. Few shops have the means of
disassembly and re-assembly of the crankshaft. If your topend is still
good, you could get a remanufactured crankshaft for $375. A reman'd
engine is $899 plus $170 shipping. Gasket kit is $34. Labor about
$550. In our shop, your job would have been $1776.
