Gas Gauge Problem 93 SPX Any Help Appreciated!

Last fall we had a Bombardier Dealer replace the engine in our 93
Seadoo. When we fired it up this weekend for the first time, everything
worked fine Except the fuel gauge. It is not a digital gauge. The gauge
no longer registers and when we ran out of gas later in the day and
turned the reserve switch to on, the engine still didn't start. We had
it towed in, filled it up with gas and after a little cranking the
machine started right up.

The gauge worked fine before the engine was replaced, Any ideas as to
what the problem might be? I checked the wiring and I see no loose ends.
Is there a fuse somewhere that I am missing.

Any ideas as to how to get the gauge working? I do not really want to
trailer in back to the dealer if I don't have to.

I don't know anything about SD electrics but when you switched to
reserve, you had completely depleted all the fuel in the lines and it
takes a while to get it back through. Using the choke will help pull it
through. There is probably a connector on the terminal board inside the
electrical box with the fuel wire not plugged in but you need a
schematic or one of the experts here to tell you where to plug it in
(or, if I'm even close on the problem).

Tom/Ted,
Tom--too many late hours, it is a SD not a Polaris, no terminal board. Smile

Ted,
There is a twin plug connection coming from the fuel baffle which goes
to the gauge. What sometimes happens on the older SDs is that the
magnet falls out of the float. Pull the fuel baffle and pop the plastic
bottom piece off. If the float does not have a small square piece of
magnet in it, that is you problem. You can run a metal rod or wire
around the fuel tank and get the magnet to grab hold. Glue it back on.
Check for to make sure you see a range on an ohm meter before
re-installing by tilting the baffle to cause the float to slide. If you
have no resistance, then the fuel baffle is bad.

Nine times out of ten, you need a new fuel baffel (sending unit) in the gas
tank. At least a float kit.

Tom was correct about when you switched to reserve. Cranking with the choke
on would have started it on reserve.
