GPR or STXR? Advice needed....

Well, I normally don't need to ask for advice (because I think I know every
damn thing already Wink

) but which of these two boats, in your opinions, is
best for endurance racing. I"m talking after mods. I'm looking for a fast
boat that stays hooked up in the rough. I'm getting mixed opinions from
respectable sources who are emailing me. The deal I was working for a 2002
GPR fell through and now I'm kind of back at the drawing board. Any help
that you newsgroup regulars could give me would be appreciated. Thanks
guys.

I'm 5'11" and he's a couple of inches shorter than me. I know where you
are headed with this. The STXR is supposedly not that great for taller
people, right?

Both boats are great after mods, but I think the STR would be more
reliable. But at 6'2", the GPR is much more comfortable for me to
ride. Kawasaki needs to do something about ride height. I look like a
basketball on a Skoal can when I ride a friends Ultra. LOL!

Jim,I race a gpr,my son a stxr. I hate to say it the kawi wins hands
down.The only problem we have had with the stxr was a broken steering
cable.Compare to gpr cat,power valves,pump sealing and in rough water the

Hey Scott,

I'm 5'9. I have a lot of people telling me that the STXR is the way to go
but I don't hear of anyone getting them in the 70-75 MPH range without
spending a fortune. The GPR, from what I hear, can be made to go fast and
hook up for a lot less money. Any feedback on this?

The GPR/STXR debate makes me think of a Mopar/Chevy debate. Each boat really
has some strong features. The STXR outhandles the GPR hands down. It takes an
expensive handling kit to make the GPR a good turning boat. Both boats handle
chop well. STXR isnt all that friendly for taller riders. Shorter riders will
not like the stock GPR seat. GPR is cheaper to mod (so far) and it sure seems
like your HP mods go a long way with the Yamaha engine. Personally, I think
either boat would make a good endurance boat. Although I have nothing to back
this up with, I do feel like agreeing that the Kawi may be a more reliable
engine. But I think the only reason I think this is that most of the GPRs are
WAY OVERBUILT in the endurance series in which I compete. WAY WAY OVERBUILT.
I think this is going to come down to taking a ride and seeing which you like
best. The GPR is a very comfy boat, I really enjoy mine. I have yet to hear a
STXR owner unhappy either.

back into Long Beach, I'm going to torpedo it into the side of the Queen
