This year I went on a working day, instead of a weekend.
Ah, so this is when all the serious anglers come out of the winter
woodworks to avoid the huge crowds. Corporate fisherman is
what I call them, the suit & tie guys with the big bucks...never
would have guessed they could cast a line unless they were wearing
their waders. They're good too, can lay a fly down on a dime, delicately.

Admission was reasonable $15.oo, got hit on the $8.oo parking, but
the two free hats and the freebee 120 min. DVD of Mike Lawson dissecting the
Henry's Fork was well worth it.

Same ol stuff; except for a few new items that caught my attention.
Sharkskin line...weird feel, scaley. So it's suppose to cast like a dream,
but wait, what happens when you hook a fish and start stripping in?
The question I asked the rep. Got that puzzled trout look and heard him
mumble "better wear a finger glove".

Rio has a new tippet material called "Extreme" the thinnest, strongest
tippet material made. Now that was nice. I'll probably try sometime.

A Japanese bamboo fly rod builder...he couldn't cast, but he enjoyed
watching me cast his rods. He kept bringing me one rod after another,
soon I told him I had to go.

Didn't buy a thing...first time.

Larry, it's called; "Henry's Fork with Mike Lawson"

At first I thought, "ok, another outfitter trying to sell their package on
DVD, but to my surprise, Mike didn't try to sell a thing, but instead he
dissected the Henry's Fork in sections, the flies to use, both dry and
nymphs patterns, and how to present them. It was the best DVD I've seen on
the breakdown of a river.
I already watched it twice.
I love some of Mike's comments, like when he was rowing and put one of the
anglers on a good size rainbow. He said; "I guess I earned my tip money!"
Another time he gave an angler a beat-up nymph, said he hires kindergartners
to tie them and joked with the him that he could sell him some for big
bucks, as he tied it on. The first cast with it, he hooks up on a 5 pound
brown.

Not only an education of the Henry's fork, but great entertainment as well.
A must see for any fly fisherman, and not bad for a freebee.

Sounds like an adaptation of one of his books. Did Phil Takatsuno produce
it? ( he has done DVD adaptations of similar books about the area )

Larry,
here's a link on the Henry's Fork with Mike Lawson from Amazon.
They want $34.95 for it...
http://www.amazon.com/HENRYS-FORK-Mike-Lawson/dp/B000S1MIWO

You may want to write Mike Lawson and ask them if you could get a free
copy that they were giving away at the Pleasanton Fly Fishing show.
If not I could lend you mine, and when your done send it back.

The studio is: Cascade Media Works and directed by Gene Hering.

16inches There was a very sparse, mixed, hatch(es), should pick up soon
with this warm weather.

Turning a fish upside down I've been watching the "New Fly Fisher" which broadcast Sunday mornings. Yesterday I learned that if you turn a fish upside down while they're in the water, they'll lose equilibrium and won't struggle. Makes it easy to unhook and release them. -tom
