Bluebird fundraising appeal
Russell Jenkins

CONISTON The daughter of the record-breaker Donald Campbell
announced a £750,000 fundraising appeal in the Lake District
to restore the wreckage of her father's speedboat, Bluebird.
The Heritage Lottery Fund has turned down the project
twice on the ground that it is unfeasible to recreate the
boat from the twisted metal hauled from Coniston Water five
years ago. Gina Campbell said that she had no choice but to
"go it alone" if she wanted to realise her dream.
